MIL Comes On With DTC P0420

SYMPTOM

The MIL comes on with DTC P0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold).

POSSIBLE CAUSE

The gasket between the catalyst and exhaust pipe A may be damaged.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the gasket and the three self-locking nuts.

Pipe Gasket:
P/N 18302-SP0-003

Self-Locking Nut (three required):
P/N 90212-SA5-003

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the three nuts on exhaust pipe A:





NOTE:
The current procedure currently shown on ISIS is for the incorrect type of exhaust (one that uses a long bolt and spring mechanism). The 2013 Accord uses studs and nuts.

2. Remove the two bolts that mount the bracket to exhaust pipe A.

3. Disconnect the rubber exhaust hangers.

4. Disconnect the oxygen sensor clip and the connector.

5. Remove the four bolts from the front floor brace.

6. Pull down exhaust pipe A to access the exhaust pipe A gasket.





7. Install a new gasket and three self-locking nuts. Torque the nuts to 54 N.m (40 lb-ft).





8. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
