Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.




2. Remove the drivers and passenger insulator. Refer to .
3. Disconnect brake release lever from I/P (Instrument Panel).
4. Remove diagnostic connection from bottom of I/P, drivers side. Refer to in Data Link Communications.




5. Remove the I/P center console. Refer to .




6. Remove the I/P center trim panel. Refer to .




7. Remove the I/P extension trim plate. Refer to .




8. Remove the assist handle. Refer to .




9. Remove I/P storage compartment. Refer to .
10. Remove the I/P storage compartment lamp. Refer to .




11. Remove left and right I/P side trim.




12. Remove the drivers knee bolster. Refer to .




13. Remove the left accessory trim plate. Refer to .




14. Remove the right accessory trim panel. Refer to .




15. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to .
16. Remove steering column. Refer to in Steering Wheel and Column.




17. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to .




18. Remove I/P air bag module. Refer to in SIR.




19. Remove the radio from center stack. Refer to in Entertainment.




20. Remove the HVAC control. Refer to in HVAC systems-Automatic.




21. Remove Onstar(R) module from center stack. Refer to in Cellular Communication.




22. Remove traction control, air ride switch module assembly.




23. Remove transfer case control switch module. Refer to in Transfer Case.




24. Remove the rear wiper switch. Refer to in Wiper/Washers systems.




25. Remove headlamp switch. Refer to .
26. Remove the upper HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts. Refer to and in HVAC Automatic.
27. Remove the lower HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts. Refer to and in HVAC Automatic.




28. Remove the nut from the I/P carrier center support.
29. Remove the upper I/P carrier bolts.
30. Remove the drivers and passenger side I/P carrier bolts.
31. Disconnect the electrical connections from the Body control module (BCM) to the body harness.
32. Remove the wiring harnesses through the openings in the I/P retainer.
33. Remove the I/P assembly from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure


Important: Make sure Ambient Light Sensor is routed to the top of I/P.






1. Align I/P in vehicle and route all electrical harnesses through I/P retainer.
2. Install the upper and side I/P carrier bolts.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.



Tighten the bolts to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).





3. Install I/P carrier center support nut.

Tighten the nut to 9 Nm (80 lb in).





4. Install the I/P cluster and cluster trim panel. Refer to .
5. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.




6. Install the I/P air bag module. Refer to in SIR.
7. Install the I/P storage compartment lamp. Refer to .




8. Install the I/P storage compartment. Refer to .




9. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to .




10. Remove the rear wiper switch. Refer to in Wiper/Washers systems.




11. Install the transfer case control switch module. Refer to in Transfer Case.




12. Install traction control, air ride module to center stack and make electrical connections.

Tighten the screws to 2 Nm (18 lb in).





13. Install the radio. Refer to in Entertainment.




14. Install Onstar(R) module from center stack. Refer to in Cellular Communication.




15. Install the HVAC control. Refer to in HVAC systems-Automatic.




16. Install traction control module/air ride suspension switch assembly.

Tighten the screws to 2 Nm (18 lb in).





17. Install I/P storage compartment. Refer to .
18. Install the I/P storage compartment lamp. Refer to .




19. Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to .
20. Install steering column to I/P. Refer to in Steering Wheel and Column.




21. Connect diagnostic connector to the I/P. Refer to in Data Link Communications.
22. Connect brake release lever to I/P.

Tighten the screws to 2 Nm (18 lb in).





23. Install the I/P extension trim plates. Refer to .




24. Align drivers and passenger side I/P side trim panel and snap into place.




25. Install the left accessory trim panel. Refer to .




26. Install the right accessory trim panel. Refer to .




27. Install the assist handle. Refer to .




28. Install the I/P center trim panel. Refer to .




29. Remove the I/P center console. Refer to .
