Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Replacement
INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CARRIER REPLACEMENTREMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove front seats for easy access to center console.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Center console cover has to be moved back to expose center stack from I/P removal.
4. Remove the following components:
- The shift handle to the center console shifter.
- Shift bezel must be removed and disconnect electrical connection.
- Remove center console glove box and hinged cover assembly.
- Remove end cap to center console and disconnect electrical connections.
- Remove center console top panel from center console and move reward.
5. Remove glove box assembly that is hinged to the I/P.
6. Remove steering column.
7. Remove traction control module and disconnect electrical connections.
8. Remove diagnostic connection from bottom of I/P, drivers side.
9. Disconnect brake release lever from I/P.
10. Remove closeout panel, drivers side, from center stack.
11. Remove drivers side kick panel from I/P.
12. Remove instrument panel cluster trim panel from I/P.
13. Remove driver's side upper trim panel with HVAC vent from I/P.
14. Remove driver's side end cap.
15. Remove PSIR trim panel from passengers side. Disconnect electrical connectors from airbag on/off switch from I/P.
16. Remove passenger side end cap.
17. Remove I/P pull handle from console.
18. Remove center console from center console bracket and disconnect electrical connection. Align HVAC ducts from center console bracket for removal.
19. Remove center stack trim panel and disconnect electrical connections.
20. Remove lower trim panel, passenger side.
21. Remove center console bracket and floor shifter. Disconnect electrical connections and unbolt console bracket from floor.
22. Remove passenger side airbag (PSIR) from I/P.
23. Remove radio from center stack and disconnect antenna and electrical connections.
24. Disconnect HVAC control module from center stack and disconnect electrical connections.
25. Remove OnStar(R) module from center stack and disconnect antenna and electrical connections.
26. Remove traction control, air ride module from center stack and disconnect electrical connections.
27. Remove all wheel drive module from center stack and disconnect electrical connections.
28. Remove wiper module and disconnect electrical connector.
29. Remove headlamp module and disconnect electrical connector.
30. Remove instrument cluster and disconnect electrical connections.
31. Remove upper trim pad.
32. Align I/P in vehicle. Route all electrical harness through substraight and install I/P to frame.
33. Remove ambient light sensor.
34. Disconnect All HVAC connections to interior I/P outside of vehicle.
35. Remove subwoofer from console base and remove from floor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
1. Connect subwoofer to base and fasten nut to bolt on floor.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to N.m (18 lb in).
2. Make all HVAC connections to interior substraight outside of vehicle.
IMPORTANT: Make sure Ambient Light Sensor is routed top of I/P.
3. Align I/P in vehicle and route all electrical harnesses through I/P bolt I/P to frame.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
4. Install instrument cluster, make electrical connection and tighten to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
5. Install upper trim pad.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
6. Install headlamp module and make electrical connections and tighten to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N-m (18 lb in).
7. Install wiper module and make electrical connections and snap into place.
8. Install wheel drive module and make electrical connections and snap into place.
9. Install traction control, air ride module to center stack and make electrical connections.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N-m (18 lb in).
10. Install OnStar(R) module to center stack and make electrical and antenna connections.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N-m (18 lb in).
11. Install HVAC control module to center stack and make electrical connections.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
12. Install radio to center stack and make electrical connections.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
13. Install passenger side airbag (PSIR) to I/P and make electrical connections.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
14. Install center console bracket and floor shifter, route wire harness and make electrical connections.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
15. Bolt console bracket to floor.
16. Install lower trim panel, passenger side and snap panel into place.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
17. Install glove box assembly. Tighten glove box hinge to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
18. Install upper trim panel. Align Ambient Light Sensor through hole in panel and secure upper trim panel to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
19. Install steering column to I/P.
20. Install traction control module. Make all electrical connections and fasten to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
21. Connect diagnostic connector to bottom of I/P, Driver's's side.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
22. Connect brake release lever to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
23. Install closeout panels to center stack and fasten in place.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
24. Install driver's side kick panel and fasten to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
25. Install cluster trim panel to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
26. install drivers side endcap and snap into place.
27. Install driver's side upper trim panel with HVAC vent to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
28. Install PSIR trim panel on passenger side, make electrical connection airbag ON /0FF switch and fasten to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
29. Install passenger side endcap and snap into place.
30. Install I/P pull handle and snap into place.
31. Install center console to center console bracket. Align HVAC ducts and rear electrical connectors. Fasten to bracket
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in).
32. Install center stack trim panel and tighten to I/P.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
33. Install center console top panel and secure to center console.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
34. Install end cap to center console, make electrical connections to end cap and secure to center console.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
35. Install center console glove box to center console.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.6 N.m (14 lb in).
36. Install shift bezel and make electrical connections and snap into place.
37. Install shift handle to center console shifter and tighten in place.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.6 N.m (14 lb in).
