LIFTGATE AJAR INDICATOR DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

The liftgate contains 2 liftgate ajar switches. Both are in the latches on each side of the liftgate. Both of the liftgate ajar switches report ajar status to the same pin on the body control module (BCM). When either of the ajar switches are closed, liftgate open a switched ground signal will be sent to the BCM. The BCM will send a class 2 message to the instrument cluster to display the REAR ACCESS OPEN message.

It is possible for the liftgate to be partially latched and will even lock but still be ajar and cause the REAR ACCESS OPEN message to display on the DIC.
