Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Replacement

INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CARRIER REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the passenger insulator.
3. Disconnect the brake release lever from the instrument panel (I/P).
4. Remove the diagnostic connection from bottom of I/P, drivers side.

5. Remove the I/P center console.

6. Remove the I/P center trim panel.

7. Remove the left and right I/P side trim.

8. Remove the assist handle.

9. Remove the I/P compartment.

10. Remove the drivers knee bolster.

11. Remove the left accessory trim plate.

12. Remove the right accessory trim panel.

13. Remove the I/P air bag module.
14. Remove the steering column.

15. Remove the I/P cluster.

16. Remove the I/P upper trim pad.

17. Remove both windshield garnish moldings.

18. Remove the radio from center stack.

19. Remove the HVAC control.

20. Remove the Onstar(R) module from center stack.

21. Remove the traction control air ride switch module assembly.

22. Remove the transfer case control switch module.

23. Remove the rear wiper switch.

24. Remove headlamp switch.
25. Remove the upper HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts.
26. Remove the lower HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts.

27. Remove the nut from the I/P carrier center support.
28. Remove the upper I/P carrier bolts.
29. Remove the drivers and passenger side I/P carrier bolts.
30. Disconnect the electrical connections from the body control module (BCM) to the body harness.
31. Remove the wiring harnesses through the openings in the I/P retainer.
32. Remove the I/P assembly from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Make sure the ambient light sensor is routed to the top of the I/P.

1. Align the I/P in the vehicle and route all electrical harnesses through the I/P retainer.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the upper and side I/P carrier bolts

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N-m (37 lb ft).

3. Install the I/P carrier center support nut.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

4. Install the windshield garnish moldings.
5. Install the upper HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts.
6. Install the lower HVAC air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts.

7. Install the steering column.

8. Install the drivers knee bolster.

9. Install the I/P air bag module.

10. Install the I/P storage compartment.

11. Install the headlamp switch.

12. Install the rear wiper switch.

13. Install the transfer case control switch module.

14. Install the traction control, air ride module to center stack and make electrical connections.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N-m (18 lb in).
