Bumper Replacement - Rear (SUT)

Removal Procedure

1. Lift the vehicle. Refer toLifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove both lower rear bolts to the inner wheel house panels.




3. Remove the spare tire carrier. Refer toSpare Tire Carrier Replacement (SUV) Spare Tire Carrier Replacement (SUT) in Tires and Wheels.
4. Remove the top rear bumper step pad . Refer toStep Pad Replacement - Top Rear Bumper () .




5. Disconnect the electrical connector for the rear trailer tow receptacle at the rear bumper (1).
6. Remove the receptacle bolts (3) and receptacle (2).




7. Remove the push-in retainers (1) securing the bumper end cap (2) to the wheelhouse extensions.
8. Disconnect the rear park lamp electrical sockets.




9. Cut the tie straps (2) securing the electrical harness loom (1) to the rear bumper brackets (3).
10. Remove the rear bumper step pad. Refer toStep Pad Replacement - Top Rear Bumper () .
11. Remove the rear bumper end cap retainers and covers.




12. Remove the nuts (1, 3) securing the reinforcement bar (2) to the bumper end cap and trailer hitch bolt (4).
13. Remove the rear bumper bolts behind the removed spare tire carrier mounting plates.
14. Remove the bumper.



Installation Procedure





1. Position the rear bumper (1) to the chassis frame.

Notice: Refer toFastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the 2 rear bumper bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 32 Nm (24 lb ft) at the spare tire carrier mounts.

3. Install the rear tire carrier mounts (2, 3) to the bumper.
4. Install the bolts (1).

Tighten the bolts to 100 Nm (74 lb ft).





5. Install the reinforcement bar (2) to the chassis hitch bolt and end cap.
6. Install the nuts (1, 3) and adjust the bumper height.

Tighten the nuts to 85 Nm (63 lb ft).





7. Install the 2 outer bumper end caps (2) and secure the push-pin retainers.
8. Connect the rear park lamp electrical sockets.




9. Secure the electrical harness loom (1) to the rear bumper bracket (3) with a new tie strap (2).
10. Install the push-in retainers in order to secure the bumper end caps.




11. Install the trailer tow receptacle (2) to the rear bumper (1).
12. Install the bolts (3).

Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb in).





13. Secure the rear bumper step cover (1). Refer toStep Pad Replacement - Top Rear Bumper () .
14. Secure the license plate harness grommet (2) to the bumper cover.
15. Connect the trailer tow receptacle electrical connector.
16. Install the top rear bumper step pad . Refer toStep Pad Replacement - Top Rear Bumper () .
17. Install the spare tire carrier. Refer toSpare Tire Carrier Replacement (SUV) Spare Tire Carrier Replacement (SUT) in Tires and Wheels.
18. Lower the vehicle. Refer toLifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
19. Install the 2 rear lower wheelhouse liner bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
