Description
Metal automatic transaxle case gaskets have been used in production for several years. Since, the thickness of the metal and asbestos gaskets is not the same, when replacing an asbestos gasket (installed before the date listed below) with a metal gasket, check the end play of the transfer shaft and the differential case. If the transfer shaft and differential case end play are not within specification, follow the service procedure in this bulletin.
TRANSFER SHAFT TYPES
Two types of transfer shafts, each with a different end play checking method, are used in the automatic transaxle.
"A" TYPE
The bearing is installed on the end of the transfer shaft. The end play can be adjusted with the spacer, which is located between the transfer shaft bearing outer race and the converter housing as shown in the illustrations.
"B" TYPE
The bearing is located on the transfer shaft as shown in the illustration. The end play can be adjusted with the spacer on the transfer shaft as shown in the illustrations.
