2.Inspection

FIGURE 5:

A. Inspect the brake pad protector and brake pad retaining pins (Shown in Figure 5) for damage and/or excessive wear. Replace if necessary.

FIGURE 6:

B. Inspect; the area of the brake caliper piston and dust seal (See Figure 6) for leaking brake fluid or damage. If necessary, rebuild the caliper following the procedures in the appropriate Hyundai Shop Manual.

FIGURE 7:

C. Since the caliper is of a floating type, the torque plate shafts should be kept clean or the caliper and bushing can wear prematurely. Remember to clean the torque plate shafts. (See Figure 7).

FIGURE 8:

D. Check the brake disc for wear, damage or warpage. Deep scratches, grooves, signs of excessive heat and excess runout indicate that the disc should be resurfaced. However, if the resurfacing operation requires the removal of excess disc material and will result in a disc that is thinner than the service limit shown below, the disc must be replaced. For disc removal procedures refer to Technical Service Bulletin 012, Chassis Section.
NOTE: It is important that the front brake discs be of equal size and surface finish. Therefore, if it is necessary to resurface a front disc, it is important to resurface both discs an equal amount. If disc replacement is required, replace both discs. Never resurface or replace just one (1) disc. Keep the set identical.
CAUTION: Prior to installing new brake pads, make certain that all oil and grease is cleaned from the brake disc.
