FRONT HUB REMOVAL (MODIFIED PROCEDURE)
This procedure is an alternative method of removing front hub and disc assembly. This method is particularly suitable for servicing brake discs.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Raise vehicle and support.
2. Remove front wheel.
3. Remove cotter pin, front driveshaft nut and washer.
4. Remove the front brake caliper assembly. Do not disconnect the fluid line. Support the caliper with a wire. Do not allow it to hang by brake fluid line.
5. Attach SST 09526-11001 to hub lug bolts as shown and pull the hub off the knuckle.
6. Separate brake disc from hub by removing the four attachment bolts as shown. The rotor may now be serviced or replaced as required.
ASSEMBLY
1. Bolt brake disc to hub and torque bolts to 36-43 ft.lbs.
2. Install disc/hub assembly over axle splines and draw on to axle fully using the axle nut. Torque axle nut to 145-188 ft.lbs. Install a new cotter pin.
3. Using a suitable cleaner remove all dirt, oil, grease, etc. from the brake disc.
4. Install brake caliper assembly. Torque attachment bolts to 43-58 ft.lbs.
NOTE: It may be necessary to push the piston back into the caliper. If this is necessary use SST 09581-11000 to provide sufficient clearance to reinstall the caliper.
5. Install wheel and torque nuts to appropriate specification.
Wheel nut tightening torque:
Steel wheel 50-57 ft.lb. (7-8 kg-m)
Aluminum alloy wheel 65-72 ft.lb. (9-10 kg-m)
CAUTION:
Use a Torque Wrench Only! Do not use an impact wrench to tighten wheel nuts. This type of wrench often leads to over torquing which may damage the wheel nuts and studs and/or the wheel.
