Steering Wheel - Excessive Vibration At Idle

STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AT IDLE



A steering wheel damper kit is available to correct customer complaints of excessive steering wheel vibration at idle. This kit should be used only when correctly set engine operating parameters (idle speed, ignition timing, etc.) do not reduce this condition to an acceptable level.



Installation

1. Place vehicle on level ground with the wheels and steering wheel in the straight ahead position.

2. Remove the horn pad assembly. See figure 1.

3. Remove steering wheel mounting nut.

4. Using SST 09561-11001, remove the old steering wheel and discard. See figure 2.

CAUTION Do not hammer on the steering wheel or column to remove the steering wheel as this may damage the collapsible mechanism.

5. Install new steering wheel on shaft in straight ahead position.

6. Install Dynamic damper. See figure 3.

7. Install lockwasher and mounting nut. Torque mounting nut to 25-32 ft.lbs. See figure 4.
8. Test drive vehicle and confirm the steering wheel is properly aligned and that the horn operates properly.
