FRONT SEAT CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM (PASSIVE RESTRAINT VEHICLES ONLY)

Restraint anchors have been installed since 9-1-87 production to accommodate the use of a child restraint device in the front seat of Excels equipped with passive restraint belts.
While Hyundai does not recommend that child restraints be used in the front seat, these anchors are provided for the convenience of Hyundai owners and operators who wish to install an additional restraining device for that purpose. Customers should be alerted that, according to accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seating positions than in the front seating positions.

Customers wishing to install such a device should be informed that the belt is not available from Hyundai and that the aftermarket belt that they select should meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 209. Additionally, customers should be directed to the appropriate section of the owners manual regarding the use of child restraint devices in the front seat of Excels equipped with the passive restraint option.
