COLD WEATHER ENGINE OIL REQUIREMENTS

During cold weather (sub-freezing) engine oils have a significantly higher impact on engine performance than during warmer weather conditions. In extreme cold (-10~F and below) their impact is even greater. Problems such as hard starting due to slow cranking speeds and poor internal lubrication are common symptoms of too high of an oil viscosity usage. These symptoms may also occur if engine oil change intervals are extended leading to thickened oils from over usage. Please refer to the chart below for cold weather engine oil requirements. Additionally, the following page shows the proper maintenance oil change intervals for both normal and severe conditions.
ENGINE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE INTERVALS

NON SEVERE CONDITIONS

Every 7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever occurs first.

SEVERE CONDITIONS*

Every 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever occurs first.

*Severe Conditions
^ Repeated short distance driving
^ Extensive idling
^ Driving in dusty conditions
^ More than 50% driving in heavy city traffic during hot weather above 90~F (32~C)
