ENGINE STALL - SHIFTING INTO GEAR AT IDLE (FIELD FIX)
1989-1991 model year Sonatas with 2.4L engines and automatic transaxles may stall when the ambient air temperature is 50-70 degrees F and the transaxle is shifted into gear immediately after starting a cold engine. A cold start enrichment field fix kit has been designed to correct this condition. This kit does not affect engine performance at any other time.
Note:
A repair kit contains a modulator, an extension harness, an adaptor and a strap.

NOTE:
Installation of extension harness, end with RED TAPE goes to ECU.
SERVICE PROCEDURES
1. Record the customers preset radio stations, then disconnect the battery negative terminal.
2. Remove the RH side door scuff trim dip.
3. Remove the lower crash pad under cover.
4. Remove the right hand cowl side lower trim.
5. Disconnect the connectors from the electronic control unit (ECU) and remove the bolt securing the ground wires (G07).
6. Strap the modulator and wire harness together as shown in the illustration.
7. Connect the extension harness connectors to the ECU and control harness connectors to the adapter. Reinstall the ground wires with bolt (G07)
NOTE:
The end of the extension harness with the RED TAPE on it goes to the ECU.
8. Reinstall the cowl side lower trim, door scuff trim, and lower crash pad under cover (if applicable).
NOTE:
When Installing the cowl side lower trim, center the adapter on the top edge of the cowl side lower trim.
9. Reconnect the battery ground cable. Reset the customers preset radio stations. Start engine and check for proper operation.
