INITIAL START STALLING - FIELD FIX KIT
This TSB updates TSB 93-36-001 and provides additional diagnosis procedures.
1989-1991 model year Sonatas with 2.4 L engines and automatic transaxle may stall when the ambient air temperature is 50-70° F and the transaxle is shifted into gear immediately after starting a cold engine. A Field Fix kit has been designed to correct this condition. This kit does not affect engine performance at any other time. If a customer has an initial start related complaint, the following steps should be taken:
1. Verify correct ATF fluid level (ATM vehicles only).
2. Check for fault codes using the Multi-use Tester.
3. Verify that basic ignition timing is set to specification (refer to Sonata shop manual).
4. Verify that the basic idle speed adjustment is set properly (refer to Sonata shop manual).
5. Verify that the Throttle Position Sensor adjustment is correct (refer to Sonata shop manual).
6. Verify fuel pressure is correct.
NOTES:
1. If the above steps do not indicate an out of specification condition, the field fix kit should be installed.
2. A repair kit contains a modulator, extension harness, adapter and a strap.
