Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection

Power Transistor:

Power Transistor Location:

To test the Power Transistor, located on the intake manifold, using an analog type circuit tester proceed as follows.

Power Transistor Connector Identification:

1. Disconnect the power transistor connector.
2. Connect the negative (-) terminal of a 3v power supply (one dry cell) to terminal 2 of the power transistor.
3. Then check for continuity between terminals 3 and 2 when terminal 1 and the positive (+) terminal of the 3v power supply are connected and disconnected.
4. There should be continuity between 2 and 3 with terminal 1 connected to power supply. There should be no continuity between 2 and 3 with terminal 1 disconnected from power source.

If the Power Transistor fails these tests, replace the Power Transistor.
