Recall - Oxygen Sensor Replacement

CALIFORNIA SPECIFICATION OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

DESCRIPTION:

This bulletin describes the procedure for the replacement of the oxygen sensor on 1992 Model California specification Sonatas and Elantras equipped with four cylinder engines.

SERVICE PROCEDURES:





1. Check the vehicle to see if the oxygen sensor has been replaced previously.

A. If the oxygen sensor has been replaced:
Go to step 9.

B. If the oxygen sensor has not been replaced:
Go to Step 2.





2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Note:
Record the customer's radio stations before disconnecting the negative battery cable.

3. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector from the engine wiring harness.

4. Raise the vehicle.

5. Remove the oxygen sensor.

6. Install a new oxygen sensor and torque to 29 - 36 lb.ft.

7. Lower the vehicle to the ground.

8. Connect the oxygen sensor connector to the engine wiring harness.
Connect the negative battery terminal and reset the radio stations and clock.

9. An authorized Modifications Label will need to be applied to the under side of the hood. Wipe the surface clean before applying the new label.

10. On the Authorized Modifications Label, you will need to write in the following information:

CHANGE AUTHORITY: 020

DEALER CODE: YOUR DEALER CODE

REPAIR DATE: THE DATE OF THE REPAIR

Remove the backing from the clear adhesive on the front of the label, and press down on the label.





11. Open the driver's door and place a punch mark over the 10th character on the B-Pillar or the Door identification plate. This will indicate that the campaign procedures have been completed.

12. Fill out the California Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction form as shown below:

California residents who own an affected vehicle may be required to send a Vehicle Emission - Proof of Correction form to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) as evidence of recall completion when they apply for vehicle registration renewal. Each customer whose vehicle is registered within California must be given a completed Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction form after the recall has been completed. Packages of this form have been sent to California dealers along with this bulletin. Additional forms are available by contacting your Field Technical Managers (FTM).

Note:
This form MUST be completed by the Dealership's Service Manager using a permanent ink pen. A fine point pen is recommended. When filling in the information, copy the information directly from the vehicle, NOT the repair order.

ALL INFORMATION MUST BE PRINTED AND NEAT.





DO NOT COMPLETE THE FORM UNLESS THE RECALL WORK IS COMPLETED!

1. Enter the vehicle's license number.

2. Enter "HYUNDAI"

3. Enter the vehicle's model year "1992"

4. Enter "ELANTRA OR SONATA"

5. Enter the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Note:
1 digit per box, and the digits must be legible. (Use a fine point pen.)

6. Enter "020"

7. Enter your dealership's name.

8. Enter your dealership's physical address. (Not the mailing address.)
