Heating and Air Conditioning: Service and Repair
1. Run engine at idle speed with A/C on maximum cooling for 20-30 minutes to return oil to compressor.2. Discharge and recover refrigerant and remove compressor from vehicle.
3. Remove drain plug, drain oil from compressor and measure amount of oil recovered. Oil may be difficult to drain if compressor is cold. Remove oil with compressor warm (104-122°F).
4. If oil recovered is 2.1 ounces or greater, add same amount to new compressor. If oil recovered is less than 2.1 ounces, add enough additional oil to bring compressor total to 2.1 ounces.
5. If other components are replaced, add the following amounts of oil:
a. Evaporator, 3.0 ounces.
b. Condenser, 1.0 ounce.
c. Accumulator, 1.0 ounce.
