Group: BODY ELECTRICALNumber: 93-90-016
Date: OCTOBER, 1993
Model: 1992-93 SONATA
Subject:
INTERMITTENT WIPER OSCILLATION
Condition:
Intermittent wiper speed vades with engine RPM.
Cause:
Intermittent wiper circuit receiving inductive voltage from the tachometer signal.
Diagnosis
Start the engine and run at 2500 RPM with the intermittent wiper set on the lowest speed. If the wipers sweep more than five times per-minute, perform the following repair:
1. Remove the negative battery cable. Remove lower left crash pad and steel support.
Note:
Record customer radio station before disconnecting the battery.
2. To disconnect ETACS and wiper switch wire connectors you must first remove the ETACS.
3. Cut the wires two inches from the ETACS connector (M80-2) [ pin # 1 gm/wht and pin # 2 red/blu ] and the wipers switch connector (M03-1) [pin # 9 gm/wht and pin # 7 red/blu ] cut the wires.
4. Using two jumper wires ( 14 gauge ) solder the jumper wires to the connectors. Use shrink tubing to insulate the soldered joints.
S. Arrange and tie-wrap the new wires away from the steering column.
6. Reconnect the wire connectors, reinstall the ETACS and negative battery cable.
7. Start the engine to retest the intermittent wiper. (follow the diagnosis procedure found above)
8. If the condition is corrected, reinstall the lower left crash pad and steel support.
9. Reprogram the radio stations.
