Airbag Deployment Procedure (Deployment Outside of A Vehicle)
1. Turn the ignition key to the "Off" position and remove the key from the vehicle.2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait 30 seconds.
3. Remove the air bag inflator module (refer to Section 56 A of the shop manual for vehicle specific instructions).
Caution 1:
When carrying a live air bag module, make sure the trim covering and bag opening area is pointed away from you.
Caution 2:
When placing a live air bag module on a bench or other surface, always face the trim cover surface pointing up. This is necessary so that a free space is provided to allow the air bag to expand in the unlikely event of an unintentional deployment.
4. Select a well ventilated area for deployment.
5. Securely anchor the air bag module in a vise secured to a firm foundation.
6. Connect the Out of Vehicle extension harness (P/N 0957A-34200 for driver's air bag P/N 0957A-34600 for passenger's air bag) to the deployment tool main harness. (Extension harnesses are included with SRS deployment tool.)
7. Connect the remote deployment tool connector to the air bag module connector receptacle.
8. Move the SRS deployment tool at least 30 feet (10 meters) away from the air bag module. Make sure other people are not closer than 30 feet to the air bag.
9. Warn others in the vicinity that there will be a loud noise when the air bag is deployed.
10. Connect the red clamp of the SRS deployment tool to the positive terminal of a 12 volt automotive battery.
11. Connect the black clamp of the SRS deployment tool to the negative terminal of the battery. The polarity indicator on the deployment tool should be green, indicating a proper connection.
12. Press the red button on the deployment tool. The air bag module should deploy. If the air bag fails to deploy. using this procedure, disconnect the deployment tool from the battery and contact your Hyundai regional technical support center for further details.
Caution:
Avoid breathing any dust resulting from deployment. Always wear a dust mask.
13. The deployed air bag is very hot. Wait at least 30 minutes after deployment for the module to cool before handling. Remove the deployment connector and dispose of the air bag (see disposal procedure).
Caution:
Hyundai does not recommend deploying an air bag while it is mounted in the vehicle.
