Date: JULY, 1994

Model: ELANTRA, SONATA

Subject:
RETRIEVING CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC CODES

DESCRIPTION

Retrieving cruise control diagnostic codes can be displayed by using the "CRUISE" indicator light on the instrument panel. The multi-use tester (MUT) is not used to communicate with the cruise control module.

PREPARATION

Before beginning, inspect each of the following items.

1. Installation and connection routes of the cables and vacuum hoses of the cruise vacuum pump assembly, cruise control actuator and pulley assembly.
2. Excessive play or tension in each cable.
3. Damaged or disconnected cruise control module connector.

READING DIAGNOSTIC CODES

The cruise main switch and the ignition switch must be in the ON position to retrieve diagnostic codes.

Ground terminal 5 or 10 of the data link connector (see figure for exact terminal designation).

The "CRUISE" indicator on the instrument panel will begin to flash a code describing the condition of the system. The pattern in which the indicator flashes will reveal the specific area needing service. The illustration is an example of how the "CRUISE" indicator would flash code 3.
