HDS DIAGNOSTIC LABOR TIMES REVISION

This TSB is a revision to TSB 94-00-OO3. It contains additional UPC information and warranty claim information. You may now use the HDS Diagnostic times with a "TT" labor operation. The HDS Diagnostic time may not be used in the first position.

Hyundai Motor America has established three new Labor Operation Codes which can be applied when the Hyundai Diagnostic System (HDS) is used to diagnose vehicles which are eligible for warranty repairs. These codes apply to the use of HDS instrumentation modules on the engine, transmission, and anti-lock brake system.

DIAGNOSTIC TEST PROCEDURE

HDS is a powerful tool that should be used to assist in the diagnosis of difficult problems. It is not to be used on every vehicle. Technicians should perform the standard preliminary tests and review any applicable Technical Service Bulletins before hooking up the HDS instrumentation modules.

The operation codes cover a sweep test using Engine-Tech (engine system), Trans-Tech (transmission system), or ABS-Tech (anti-lock braking system) instrumentation modules.

Sweep Test Procedure

1. Remove trim panels or other parts as required to access vehicle computer.

2. Attach HDS instrumentation to vehicle computer

3. Run Sweep Test - Conditional

4. Run Sweep Test - Basic

5. Run Sweep Test - Failures (if required)

6. Print copy of all Sweep Tests and attach to Repair Order

7. Disconnect HDS instrumentation

8. Reinstall trim panels or other parts that were removed

NOTE:
In order to claim the HDS operation codes, a hard copy of the printout of the results of the Sweep Test must be attached to the Repair Order and retained in the dealers files. A copy of this printout must be sent in with any parts which are called in by the Hyundai Warranty Technical Center (WTC). To assist HMA validate warranty claims, dealers should also attach printouts of any waveforms or meters which show the malfunction of a sensor. These should also be sent to the WTC when a part is recalled.

Operation Code Use Limitations

An HDS operation code can only be used as an add-on to another labor operation. The chart lists the allowable primary UPO Code groups which HDS operation codes can be claimed with.

These operation codes are to be claimed only when the Sweep Tests as described above are performed using an HDS system. They can NOT be claimed by dealers who do not have an HDS system and they are not to be claimed when the HDS is used only for accessing information.
