Technician Safety Information
BLOCK THE DRIVE WHEELSA safety routine before beginning any service with the vehicle on the ground.
NEVER WORK UNDER A VEHICLE SUPPORTED ONLY BY A JACK
Always use jackstands, on a flat and level hard surface, for safe support.
ALWAYS WEAR APPROPRIATE EYE PROTECTION.
USE CAUTION WHEN WORKING NEAR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER
Prevent the possibility of burns. The temperatures within the converter can exceed 650°C (1200°F).
WORK IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA
Do not run the engine in confined areas or breathe concentrated exhaust gases, exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide--an odorless, colorless gas which displaces oxygen and can cause loss of consciousness or death.
IGNITION SYSTEMS PRESENT A SHOCK HAZARD
Exercise care when performing spark test and always use non-conductive ignition wire pliers. Some ignition systems use enough amperage to cause death.
FUEL SYSTEM CAUTIONS
1. Put a "CAUTION: FLAMMABLE" sign in the workshop.
2. Be sure to furnish the shop with the proper fire extinguisher.
3. Be sure to disconnect battery ground cable before any service work is done.
4. Place a suitable container under the connection to be opened.
5. Disconnect line or hose, then plug all fittings.
6. Put any drained fuel in an approved explosive-proof container and tighten the lid securely.
7. Open connections slowly, allow pressure to escape, and catch spilled fuel in container.
NOTE: If available, use system bleed valve (schrader) to relieve pressure.
