Ignition Cable: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION OF SPARK PLUG CABLESIgnition Wire Inspection:
Visually inspect the ignition wires for the following:
- Insulation for swelling or breakdown due to fuel, oil, grease or etc.
- Insulation for cracks or breaks.
- Insulator boots for swelling or breakdown due to fuel, oil, grease or etc.
- Insulator boots for cracks or breaks.
- Terminal ends for corrosion, cracks or looseness.
Ignition Wire Resistance Test:
Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the terminal ends.
Resistance:
- Number 1 wire: 6.8 K ohms
- Number 2 wire: 8.4 K ohms
- Number 3 wire: 10.6 K ohms
- Number 4 wire: 9.7 K Ohms
NOTE: Resistance should not be higher than 10,000 Ohms per foot of cable. If resistance is higher, replace the cable
