DOOR WINDOW GLASS GRIP REPAIR PROCEDURE
Condition:
The following procedure may be used to reattach door window glass to its grips.
Note:
The following instructions describe removal of the front door trim only. To perform similar repairs to the rear door glass, please refer to the appropriate Accent Shop Manual.
1. Remove the inside door trim panel.
^ Remove the clip shown in the illustration to remove the window regulator handle.
Note:
Use a clean shop rag to collect the window handle clip upon removal of regulator handle.
^ Carefully remove the quadrant inner cover from behind the side mirror.
^ Remove the inside handle mounting screw and then push the inside handle toward the door hinge. Separate the inside handle from the door trim.
^ Remove the following items in order.
a. Lock knob
b. Attachment screws at front edge of trim panel
c. Arm rest
^ Use a trim panel remover to carefully separate the clips. Lift the door trim panel, bottom rear section first, up and at an angle to clear the top of the lock rod.
2. Remove the door trim seal (moisture barrier) to access the window regulator. Remove the glass from the door if it is detached from the clips.
Note:
If the door window glass is attached to the grips, and the regulator will not raise the window, inspect the regulator for damage, and replace or adjust the regulator as necessary.
3. Note the position and order of the glass grips, marking their position on the regulator (front, rear) with a felt tip marker. Remove the mounting bolts and the grips.
4. Inspect glass and grips for damage. If damaged, the complete glass and grip assembly must be replaced.
5. Scrape the adhesive from the clips and glass. To remove residual contaminants, use a cleaning solvent such as 3M Prep Solvent 70 (3M P/N 051135-08983).
6. With the window regulator lowered, reattach the grips to the regulator in their original position.
Note:
Reattaching the grips to the glass can be performed on the bench, using installation dimensions included in the Accent Shop Manual, or on the vehicle. The following instructions are for reattaching the grips to the glass inside the door.
7. Reposition the window glass in the door, and temporarily tape into the raised position using masking tape.
8. Apply adhesive inside window grips, being careful not to glue grips to the regulator. Use 3M Automix Channel Bonding and Sidelite Adhesive, 3M P/N 051135-08641 or equivalent (applicator and nozzles required, P/N 051135-08191 and 051135-08197).
9. Lower glass into position on the grips, being careful to keep it aligned in the glass run.
10. Remove the mounting bolts from the grips and raise the glass and grip assembly off of the regulator. Temporarily tape glass and grip assembly in the raised position, until the adhesive sets.
11. When adhesive has fully set, reattach glass grips to the regulator, and then reassemble door.
