Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Description and Operation

PURPOSE/OPERATION
The malfunction indicator light (MIL) comes on to notify the driver of the emission control items when an irregularity is detected. However, when an irregular signal returns to normal, the malfunction indicator light will go out. Immediately after the ignition switch is turned on, the malfunction indicator light is lit for 5 seconds to indicate normal operation.

Items indicated by the MIL:
- Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
- Volume air flow sensor (VAF Sensor)
- Intake air temperature sensor (IAT Sensor)
- Throttle position sensor (TP Sensor)
- Engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT Sensor)
- Crankshaft position sensor (CKP Sensor)
- Camshaft position sensor (CMP Sensor)
- Injector
- Fuel pump
- EGR temperature sensor
- Vehicle speed sensor
- Barometric pressure sensor
- Ignition coil
