POSITION SENSOR ADJUSTMENT

DESCRIPTION:

The idle switch is incorporated in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) body on the 1995 - 1996 V6 Sonata. Adjustment of the TPS is made by adjusting the idle switch. After adjustment, confirm that the TPS falls within the specified voltage value given in the Shop Manual or this TSB.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Complete the basic idle speed adjustment and ensure that the throttle cable and/or cruise control cable are adjusted properly. Refer to the appropriate Shop Manual for adjustment procedure.

2. Connect the HDS scanner and turn the ignition switch ON. From the Menu, select "Transaxle", "Codes and Data Menu" and "Data" screen, go to "IDLE SW".

3. Place a 0.65 mm (0.025 in) thick feeler gauge between the fixed Speed Adjusting Screw (SAS) and throttle lever.

4. Loosen the TPS mounting bolts and turn the TPS body fully counterclockwise. Confirm that the idle switch readout shows "CLSD".

5. Slowly turn the TPS body clockwise until the idle switch readout shows "OPEN". Tighten the TPS mounting bolts securely.

6. Remove the feeler gauge.

7. Confirm that the idle switch changes from "CLSD" at idle to "OPEN" as the throttle is slightly opened.

8. Check the TPS output voltage.

STANDARD VALUE: 0.4-1.0 V

Note:
If the voltage is out of the specification, check the TPS and associated harnesses for damage. Replace TPS and associated harnesses if necessary.
