Steering Column: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove driver air bag module, Fig. 5.
3. Remove steering wheel locknut.
4. Scribe alignment marks on steering shaft and wheel, then remove steering wheel using wheel puller tool No. 09561-11002, or equivalent.
5. Remove lower crash pad by using a flat tip screwdriver.
6. Remove lower crash pad mounting bracket.
7. Disconnect connectors attached to multi-function switch assembly and untie welding clips.
8. Remove column upper and lower covers.
9. Remove multi-function switch assembly.
10. Remove universal joint to pinion of steering gearbox attaching bolt.
11. Remove steering column and shaft assembly mounting bolts and nuts, then the steering column and shaft assembly.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
