1996 ELANTRA CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING REMOVAL SERVICE TIP
DESCRIPTION:
This bulletin describes an alternate procedure for removal of the clutch release bearing to the procedure shown in the Shop Manual. Please note this TSB number on page CH-19 of the 1996 and 1997 Elantra Shop Manual for future reference.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Remove manual transaxle following the procedure from the Shop Manual.
Note:
Leave clutch cover bolted on the fly wheel when removing the release bearing. This will allow the snap ring pliers, used in the next steps, to go in place easily.
2. Rotate the release bearing by rotating the crankshaft and locate the opening of the snap ring.
3. Insert the snap ring pliers in a position to expand the snap ring.
4. Press firmly on the bearing to fully seat it against the clutch cover.
5. While the snap ring is in the expanded state, pry the clutch release bearing away from the clutch cover.
Note:
Use of a prybar may be necessary if the bearing cannot be removed by hand.
