1996 ELANTRA PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT

DESCRIPTION:
The parking brake adjustment procedure and corresponding illustrations given in the 1996 Elantra Shop Manual, page BR-37, are incorrect.
The correct brake adjustment procedure for the parking brake lever stroke is shown.
Please note the corrections and write the TSB number at the bottom of page BR-37 in the 1996 Elantra Shop Manual for future reference.
Caution:
Ensure that the rear brakes are properly adjusted before adjusting the parking brake.
ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the console upper cover and the crash pad facia panel.
2. Remove the console assembly.
3. Loosen the parking cable lock nut.
4. Adjust the parking brake lever stroke to 7 - 8 clicks by turning the adjusting bolt, located directly underneath the lock nut.
5. Tighten the lock nut.
6. Assemble the console box, center facia panel and console upper cover in the reverse order of removal.
Note:
Check that each rear wheel is free to rotate with the parking brake released. Adjust rear brakes if necessary.
