Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Testing and Inspection
SYSTEM TEST1. Disconnect the ventilation hose from the positive crankcase ventilation valve.
2. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation valve from the rocker cover.
3. Reconnect the positive crankcase ventilation valve to the vacuum hose.
4. Run the engine at idle and put a finger over the open end of the positive crankcase ventilation valve and make sure that vacuum is felt.
Note: The plunger inside the valve will move back and forth.
5. If no vacuum is felt clean the positive crankcase ventilation valve and ventilation hose in cleaning solution
6. Re-install the positive crankcase ventilation valve and tighten.
Torque: 8-12 Nm (6-8 ft lb).
VISUAL INSPECTION
1. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation valve.
2. Insert a thin stick into the positive crankcase ventilation valve from the threaded side to check that the plunger moves.
3. If the plunger does not move, the positive crankcase ventilation valve is clogged. Clean it or replace.
INSTALLATION
1. Re-install the positive crankcase ventilation valve and tighten.
Torque: 8 - 12 Nm (6 - 8 ft lb)
