Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair
*** UPDATED BY TSB# ENG023, DECEMBER, 1990 ***CAUTION: Rust penetrant such as WD-40 can contaminate the oxygen sensor and affect vehicle emissions. If rust penetrant must be used to remove the oxygen sensor, the sensor must be discarded.
When using a silicone based sealant during engine repair or rebuild, use only those approved for use on oxygen sensor equipped vehicles.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the harness terminal.
2. Remove the sensor with a suitable socket or wrench.
Oxygen Sensor:
INSTALLATION
1. Apply a thin coating of anti-seize compound to the threads.
CAUTION: Do not contaminate the sensor tip with sealing compound.
2. Install the sensor and torque to 40 - 50 Nm (29 - 36 ft lb).
3. Apply a thin coating of dielectric compound to the connector.
4. Connect harness terminal.
