Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Refer to the illustration when removing, installing and replacing cylinder head.
Loosening Sequence:
2. Using wrench tool No. 09221-32001, or equivalent, loosen and remove cylinder head bolts in sequence shown in illustration.
CAUTION: Loosen bolts in two or three stages to prevent cylinder head warpage.
3. Remove cylinder head from engine.
4. Using valve spring compressor tool No. 09222-28000 and 09222-28100, or equivalents remove the retainer lock, then remove the spring retainer, valve spring, spring seat and valve.
NOTE: Keep these parts in order so they can be reinstalled in their original positions.
5. Remove the valve stem seals with pliers, and discard.
NOTE: Do not reuse the valve stem seals.
INSTALLATION
1. Assemble cylinder head components in the reverse order of removal, then clean all cylinder block and cylinder head gasket surfaces.
2. Install a new cylinder head gasket onto the cylinder head assembly.
NOTE:
- Do not apply sealant to the gasket, and do not reuse the old cylinder head gasket.
- Verify the identification marks on the cylinder head gasket.
- Position the gasket surface with the identification mark towards the cylinder head.
Tightening Sequence:
3. Using wrench tool No. 09221-32001, or equivalent, install the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
4. Install the cylinder head bolts. Starting at top center, tighten all cylinder head bolts in sequence as shown in illustration, using the Cylinder Head Bolt Wrench (09221 -11001) or equivalent. Repeat the procedure, re-tightening all cylinder head bolt to the specified torque.
Cylinder head bolt
M10: 30 Nm (300 kg.cm, 22 ft. lbs.) + (60°-65°) + (60°-65°)
M12: 35 Nm (350 kg.cm, 26 ft. lbs.) + (60°-65°) + (60°-65°)
NOTE: When tightening the cylinder head bolt, using special tool and torque wrench, tighten the bolt to the specified torque [M10: 30 Nm, M12: 35 Nm] and then turn the torque wrench 60°-65° and repeat it one more time as shown in illustration.
