CLUTCH PEDAL SQUEAK NOISE

This TSB supersedes TSB # 97-40-017 to include additional models.

DESCRIPTION

If a "squeak" or "squawk" noise occurs while applying and releasing the clutch pedal, the source of the noise may be lack of grease at the upper plastic packing support (bushing) of the clutch release shaft. The following procedure will help reduce or eliminate the noise.

NOTE
To positively identify the source of the noise, open the hood with the engine off and listen for the noise in the area of the transaxle, while someone is operating the clutch pedal.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the clutch release cylinder push rod at the clutch release lever.

2. Remove the nut and two washers.

3. Remove the clutch release lever (see figure 1).

4. Pull up the upper plastic packing support (bushing) (see figure 1).

5. Apply grease (multi-purpose such as wheel bearing grease or any NLGI-2 specification grease) on the inside of the packing support (bushing) and outside of the clutch release shaft. (NLGI = National Lubrication Grease Institute)

6. Assemble all removed components in the reverse order of removal.
