Removal and Replacement
1) Remove the center console switch plate (with coin pocket). Use a plastic trim removal tool to release the rear tabs and lift up and out. Disconnect the TCS connector (if applicable).
2) Remove the two screws from under the switch plate just removed. Using a plastic trim removal tool, loosen the three rear metal clips and disconnect the power outlet connector. Lift out the center console lower trim panel.
3) Disconnect the HVAC temperature control cable at the blend door control.
4) Remove the two screws from the bottom of the radio/HVAC trim panel.
Note that these screws are slightly larger than all of the other screws.
5) Remove the radio/HVAC trim panel. Disconnect the wiring and remove the trim as a unit.
6) Remove the radio and bin. Disconnect the radio wiring and antenna.
7) Remove the contents of the glovebox. Remove the glove box guides from inside of the glovebox. Remove the glovebox door damper clip (white). Remove the glovebox door (two 10 mm bolts and two screws).
8) Remove the glovebox housing trim panel (one 10 mm nut and two screws). Make sure to leave the glovebox light switch and lamp wiring connected to ensure correct wiring orientation.
9) Remove the two screws at the front of the armrest unit and the two screws at the rear-sides. Lift the center armrest unit straight up and out.
10) Remove the two lower screws from the driver's side lower knee bolster.
11) Remove the cruise control/instrument panel dimmer switch panel by popping it loose with a plastic trim removal tool. Disconnect the wiring and remove the screw behind the trim plate.
12) Pop the knee bolster loose and disconnect/remove the Data Link Connector & hood release. Remove the knee bolster trim panel.
NOTE: The coin tray is NOT removable!
13) Remove the 4 screws at the top of the center console. Remove the two screws from the driver's side of the center console. Remove the three screws from the passenger side of the center console. Carefully lift out the center console base trim panel.
14) Remove the two screws that hold the passenger side lower center console trim in place. Slide loose the plastic clip at the front of the trim panel and remove the panel. Repeat on the driver's side.
15) Fold back the carpeting (on both sides) to expose the ECM/TCM.
16) Locate the ECM/TCM connectors on the driver's side and disconnect the plugs.
NOTE: The V6 ECM requires that the connectors be removed in sequence from RIGHT to LEFT, and be installed in sequence from LEFT to RIGHT.
17) Remove the lower screws from the rear seat heating ducts. Pull and lift the heat ducts out of the way for better access to the ECM/TCM mounting screws.
NOTE: The 2.4L I4 ECM connectors are triple height and color keyed (4 connectors).
18) To remove the ECM/TCM, remove the two 10mm nuts visible through the center console and a third 10 mm nut at the driver's side, front of the ECM.
