Checking Steering Wheel Free Play

CHECKING STEERING WHEEL FREE PLAY
1. Start the engine with the steering wheel in the neutral position, apply a force of 5 N (1.1 lb.) to the steering wheel in the peripheral direction.





2. Measure the play at the circumference of the steering wheel.
Standard value:
Steering wheel free play: 0 - 30 mm (0 - 1.1 inch)
3. If the play exceeds the standard value, inspect the contact of the steering shaft and tie-rod ends.
