2000 ELANTRA & 2000 TIBURON EMISSION LABEL REPLACEMENT CAMPAIGN 034

DESCRIPTION:
Some 2000 model Elantra (Sedan, Wagon) and Tiburon vehicles were released with 1999 model emission labels instead of 2000 model labels.

This TSB provides information regarding the location and correct information that these emission labels should contain. It also contains a procedure to attach the correct labels.

VEHICLES AFFECTED:





1. Affected Production Date Range

- Elantra (Sedan, Wagon): Produced June 22,1999 through September 6,1999.
- Tiburon: Produced July 2,1999 through September 7,1999.

2. Affected VIN Range

- Elantra (Sedan): KMHJF35FOYU887O63 through KMHJF35FOYU92O7OO. (Wagon): KMHJW31 JPYU1 43263 through KMHJW31 JPYU 154997.
- Tiburon: KMHJG35FIYU1 50268 through KMHJG35FIYU 163737.

VEHICLE VERIFICATION:
Before proceeding with the replacement procedure, verify the following:

1. The vehicle is a 2000 MY vehicle and was manufactured within the affected production date range. Check the vehicle model year by identifying the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) first. Also compare the VIN numbers to the affected range shown above.
2. Check the attached emission label to confirm whether it matches the vehicle model year and other information included. If the model year or the emission label is not correct, attach the correct label.

4. Attachment Procedure

A. Raise the hood and properly support it with the hood prop rod.
B. Locate the existing emission label as shown below.

NOTE: The Elantra label is on the hood and the Tiburon label is on the radiator support panel near the hood latch.

C. Clean the surface of the existing label with isopropyl alcohol or glass cleaner.
D. Remove the backing from the new emission label and carefully place the label on top of the existing one, directly covering the existing label.
E. Disengage the hood prop rod, close the hood making sure it is securely latched.
