Model: ALL 2000
Subject
CLIMATE CONTROL OPERATION
DESCRIPTION:
The revised system operation of the DEFROST and DEFROST/FLOOR modes for 311 2000 models is included in table 1. This information supersedes the information published in the owners manual of each vehicle.
SYSTEM INFORMATION:
When the DEFROST mode is selected (also defrost/floor mode on some models), the air conditioning system (and the LED indicator on the "A/C" switch) is switched ON, regardless or whether the "A/C" button is switched ON or OFF. The A/C compressor operates to dehumidify (dry) the air and rapidly reduce windshield fogging. The temperature control selector should be set at a comfortable temperature for the occupants.
For the Elantra and Tiburon, the Fresh Air / Recirculation mode control is also controlled by the DEFROST and DEFROST/FLOOR mode control. When DEFROST or DEFROST/FLOOR mode is selected, the Fresh Air / Recirculation mode control switches to Fresh Air (regardless of switch position) and remains there until the directional mode control is FACE, FACE-FEET, or FEET mode.
NOTE 1.
Elantras and Tiburons produced before November 11,1999 are equipped with a system that requires manually selecting the "A/C" for additional dehumidifying action. Additionally, the fresh air / recirculation mode can be controlled in all of the air direction modes.
NOTE 2.
On Sonata GLS models, selecting the rear window defogger switch also activates the outside mirror defrosters. This feature is not provided on other Sonata models.
NOTE 3.
Some Accent A/C kits may not include the "Auto A/C" feature in the defrost mode. This feature is easy to identify in the kits by looking for the small switch located behind the mode select knob. Refer to TSB 00-97-001 for details regarding the kit and components.
