Procedure
^ Verify the vehicle is one of the affected vehicles from the production date and the VIN.^ Verify you have the correct kit for the type of seat belt in the vehicle. If the height adjuster release buttons face rearward, the vehicle has the P/T seat belts. If they face forward, the vehicle has the ELR seat belts. The ELR kit has the parts required to convert the buttons to the rear facing direction.
^ This procedure must be applied to both left and right seat belts in the vehicle.
CHANGE THE ELR SEAT BELT HEIGHT ADJUSTER BUTTON DIRECTION (ELR SEAT BELT ONLY):
NOTE
If you have the P/T seat belts, proceed to Install the stoppers (Both ERL and P/T Seat Belts).
1. Open the door.
2. Use a trim tool or flat screwdriver to release the upper cover on the seat belt height adjuster. Discard the cover.
3. Unfasten the upper anchor mounting bolt (14 mm) and remove the Upper Anchor from the 'B' pillar.
4. Unsnap the clips that retain the lower cover to the upper anchor. Remove the lower cover and discard it.
5. Install the new lower cover (with the release button pointed to the back of the vehicle).
6. Reinstall the spacer and keeper onto the bolt.
7. Reinstall the upper anchor to the 'B' pillar. Torque the mounting bolt to 30 - 40 ft.lb. (40 - 50 Nm). Verify the upper anchor rotates freely.
CAUTION
Verify that the release button now faces the rear. It must face the rear before proceeding to step 9.
8. Snap the new upper cover in place.
9. Repeat for the other side.
INSTALL THE STOPPERS (BOTH ELR AND P/T SEAT BELTS):
1. Lower the upper anchor to the lowest position.
2. Place the stopper base at the top of the raised outline above the upper anchor. Fit the stopper base so it contacts the raised outline.
3. Drill through the hole in the stopper base with the 5 mm drill. Set the drill stop (or cut the fuel hose) so only 1" of the drill bit is exposed.
4. Place the rivet through the hole in the stopper base and the height adjuster. Use the rivet tool to secure the rivet, until the shank releases.
NOTE
The rivet Will need to be pulled 2 to 3 strokes. Some rivet tools must be opened all of the way, until a click is heard, before the rivet tool will slide down the rivet for a second pull.
5. Place the stopper over the stopper base, secure with the supplied screws.
6. Repeat for the other side.
