Back Window Glass: Service and Repair

REAR WINDOW GLASS

Rear Window Glass:






REMOVAL

1. Remove the tailgate trim panel.






2. Remove the tailgate upper trim.






3. Remove the tailgate side trim.






4. Disconnect the tailgate defogger connector.






5. Remove the tailgate glass.
Use the Special Tool (09861-31100) to cut through the sealant.






INSTALLATION

1. Using a cutter knife or the Special Tool, scrape the oil sealant smoothly to a thickness of about 2 mm (0.08 in) on the bonding surface around the entire tailgate flange.






CAUTION: Be careful not to remove more adhesive than necessary, and also not to damage the paintwork on the body surface with the knife. If the paintwork is damaged, repair the damaged area with touch-up paint.

2. Clean the body bonding flange with a sponge dampened in isopropyl alcohol.






3. Apply the body primer to body flange surface of tailgate glass.
- To use primer, shake the vessel enough.






4. Clean the primer-applied parts of tailgate glass.
- Clean completely contaminants such as oil and dust in the primer-applied parts of the tailgate glass.
- After cleaning the tailgate glass, pass a minute or more and apply the glass primer to the tailgate glass.






5. Adhere dam to the tailgate glass.
- Adhere the dam at regular intervals from the lower edge.






6. Molding installation in the tailgate glass.
- When working the molding installation in the tailgate glass, install the "A" part of the molding on the standard of "B" part of the tailgate glass.
- When inserting the molding, be careful not to change the directions.






7. Glass primer application to the tailgate glass
- To use the glass primer, shake the primer vessel enough.






8. Apply the sealant to the tailgate glass.






9. Using the Special Tool (09861-31400), install the tailgate glass.






10. Scrape or wiper the excess adhesive off with a putty knife or towel.

NOTE: To remove the adhesive from the painted surface or the rear window, use a soft shop towel dampened with alcohol.

11. Let the adhesive dry for at least one hour, then spray water over the rear window and check for leaks. If there are leaks, dry the affected area, then apply sealant.

NOTE: Let the car stand for at least four hours after rear window installation. If the car has to be used within the first four hours, it must be driven slowly.

12. Install the removed parts.

NOTE:
Advise the customer not to do the following things for two to three days
- Slam the doors with all the windows rolled up.
- Twist the body excessively (such as when going in and out of driveways at an angle or driving over rough, uneven roads).
