Subject:
2.7L V6 ENGINE OXYGEN SENSOR CHANGE
This bulletin supersedes TSB # 03-36-012, 03-36-004 & 02-36-033. Please discard the previous TSBs.
DESCRIPTION:
The oxygen sensors for the 2.7L V6 (Delta) engine have been changed to a different type. The tables shown provide the production change dates and oxygen sensor properties.
The 02 sensor change also required changes to the wiring harness and the ECM (refer to the parts catalog for detailed parts information).
The 02 sensors, wiring harness & ECM are NOT Interchangeable.
NOTE:
^ Do NOT attempt to change the 02 sensors from one type to the other on a vehicle.
^ The 02 sensors, wiring harness and ECM related to this change are NOT Interchangeable.
^ If a vehicle was originally equipped with Titanium 02 sensors, Zirconium 02 sensors cannot be installed. Please refer to the production date information to confirm which type of sensor applies.
^ If a vehicle was originally equipped with Zirconium 02 sensors, Titanium 02 sensors cannot be installed. Please refer to the production date information to confirm which type of sensor applies.
OXYGEN SENSOR CONNECTOR INFORMATION:
The 02 sensor connectors of the Titanium and Zirconium 02 sensors are different to prevent installation of the incorrect sensor type.
^ If the 02 sensor connectors require abnormal force when attempting to connect the wiring harness to the sensor, the incorrect sensor is being installed.
^ Although the connectors are different, if abnormally high force is used, it may be possible to improperly force the connectors together. This will result in a comeback with the Check Engine Light ON for 02 sensor codes.
^ If the correct sensor is connected to the correct harness connector, the connectors slide together easily, and only require normal effort to secure the locking clip.
^ If abnormal resistance is felt when connecting the sensors, refer to the production change information in this TSB as-well-as the photos in this TSB, which indicate the differences between the previous & new sensor types and connector designs to confirm that the correct sensor is being installed.
PART INFORMATION
NOTE:
The new B1/S2 02 Sensor part number is unique to the Tiburon V6; otherwise, all other new 02 Sensor part numbers are the same as the Santa Fe 2.7L V6 and Sonata 2.7L V6.
INTERCHANGEABILITY:
The Previous and New 02 sensors are NOT interchangeable.
WARRANTY INFORMATION:
Normal warranty applies.
The contents of TSB 03-36-003 (OXYGEN SENSOR LOCATION AND ENGINE BANK TERMINOLOGY -- CLARIFICATION) are included below for reference:
DESCRIPTION:
The picture explains the following terms:
^ Engine BANK
^ Up = Sensor 1 = Front = Closest to the exhaust manifold = Before the Catalyst
^ Down = Sensor 2 = Rear = After the Catalyst
^ Bank 1 is toward the Dash Panel
^ Bank 2 is toward the Radiator
The following 02 Sensor EXAMPLES show how to interpret the terminology:
^ B1/S1 = Bank 1/Sensor 1 = Dash Panel Side, BEFORE the catalyst
^ B2/S2 = Bank 2/Sensor 2 = Radiator Side AFTER the catalyst
