Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
Circuit DescriptionThe vehicle speed sensor which is installed on the speedometer driven gear in the transaxle provides a pulse signal to the ECM, and the ECM calculates the vehicle speed. In addition to the vehicle speed sensor, a wheel speed sensor which is installed on the right front wheel provides a direct analog pulse signal to the ECM, and the ECM calculates the vehicle speed (V6 without ABS ONLY). With the ignition switch in ON or START; battery voltage is supplied from fuse 17 through the PINK (P) wire to the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). The sensor is grounded by the B/O wire to G16 (V6) / G11 (DOHC).
The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) intermittently grounds the circuit, which generates a pulse signal in it. The number of pulses per minute increases/decreases with the speed of the car.
