Engine Controls - ECM Logic Improvement

Group: ENGINE ELECTRICAL

Number: 03-36-011

Date: MAY, 2003

Model: 2003 SONATA

Subject:
2003 SONATA ECM CHANGE

DESCRIPTION:

The 2003 MY Sonata Engine Control Module (ECM) logic has been changed to include a function for increasing the idle speed under certain conditions. This logic was incorporated to prevent the battery voltage from dropping too low under certain conditions.

The conditions where this function comes into play are:

^ Engine is warmed up

^ ATM is in Park or Neutral

^ Engine is idling (idle switch is "ON")

^ Battery voltage drops below 12.3V for more than 6.3 seconds

^ A/C is ON

Under the above conditions, the engine idle speed will increase by 80 RPM. For example, when the above conditions are met and the A/C compressor is engaged, the idle speed will increase from 850 RPM to 930 RPM.
