Subject
OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR AUTOMATIC ADJUSTMENT UPDATE

DESCRIPTION:

On XG350L vehicles equipped with the Integrated Memory System (IMS), the outside rearview mirrors will tilt downward 5° to show the road condition behind the vehicle when the shifter is moved to the "R" position. The rearview mirrors will return to their original positions when the shifter is moved out of the "R" position.

NOTE
Vehicles, which need to be corrected, are shown under affected vehicles.

NOTE
The rearview mirrors may only operate in this manner when the rearview mirror remote switch is in the "L" position, for both mirrors to turn downward. If the switch is in the "R" position, just the right mirror will turn downward. If the switch is in the neutral (center) position, there will be no automatic downward tilt movement of either mirror.

On certain 2004 XG350L vehicles, the outside rearview mirror(s) may not return to their original positions afier shifting from the "R" position. This condition will occur only during a "rolling" shift from the "R" to "D" position. If the vehicle comes to a complete stop between shifts, the mirrors return to the original positions.

NOTE
The outside mirrors can be automatically adjusted to their original positions by simply stopping the vehicle, shifting into reverse, then shifting out of reverse.

To correct the above condition, replace the front door power window switches with new parts in accordance with the service procedure as explained in this bulletin.

PARTS REQUIRED

NOTE
Before starting the procedure, note how the rear stoppers hold the switches to the door trim panels.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Insert a wide blade trim tool between the power window switch and door trim as shown. This will compress the rear stopper and free it from the arm rest.

CAUTION
Insert the trim removal tool into the door switch rear stopper area correctly.

CAUTION
Be careful not to damage the door trim.

2. With the trim tool compressing the rear stopper, carefully pull up on the rear of the power window switch. You may have to push the switch forward slightly to clear the lower stopper.

3. After raising the rear of the switch, slightly pull the switch rearward to separate the front stopper from the door trim. Then remove the switch from the door trim completely.

4. Disconnect both switch connectors.

5. Installation is the reverse order of removal.

6. Replace the front passenger power window switch with a new one by repeating the above steps.

NOTE
Be sure to use the proper interior trim color when replacing the switches.

NOTE
After installing the new power window switches, check that all the windows and both outside rear view mirrors operate correctly.
