Electronic Hydraulic Power Steering System
C1623 CAN Time-out Steering Angle Sensor - General Information

Component Location

General Description

The steering angle sensor (SAS) is installed under the clock spring. This SAS detects its steering wheel's operating speed and angle. These signals are inputted into MPU (Motor Pump Unit) through CAN communication.
It consists of main gear, sub gear 1, and sub gear 2 for making a decision of rotation way.
If a main gear rotates according to rotation of a steering wheel, a sub gear 1 and sub gear 2 which are engaged with the main gear rotate. This sensor calculates the absolute angle of the steering wheel by using MR effect of a magnetic in sub gear and different gear ratio between sub gear 1 and sub gear 2.
The MPU judges a driver's steering intention by SAS signals and uses these signals as an input element for controlling EHPS (Electro Hydraulic Power Steering) system.

DTC Description

The MPU sets this code if the signals from steering angle sensor are not received.
