SUBJECT:
DRIVER INFORMATION SYSTEM (DIS) OPERATING SOFTWARE UPDATE
This bulletin supersedes TSB 12-BE-012 to revise the causal part number.
DESCRIPTION:
This bulletin provides information related to the Driver Information System software update for both Head Unit (HU) & Universal Tuner Assembly (UTA) that may experience any of the following symptoms:
For 2009 MY GENESIS SEDAN
^ Audio system is muted in CD or radio mode at engine start up
^ Not receiving XM traffic report (if XM traffic is subscribed)
^ Voice Recognition system inoperative
For 2010-2011 MY GENESIS SEDAN and 2011 MY EQUUS
^ Audio system is muted in CD or radio mode at engine start up
^ DIS is set for the surround sound ON but changes to OFF condition at engine start up
APPLICABLE VEHICLES: 2009-2011 GENESIS SEDAN AND 2011 EQUUS.
PARTS INFORMATION:
A package containing three update Compact Discs will be sent to each dealer to be used for updating the DIS system software. Additional discs package can be ordered through the PDC.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
SOFTWARE VERIFICATION PROCEDURE:
1. Connect the GDS VCI module to the vehicles DLC connector and open the GDS program.
Turn on vehicle ignition and make sure the green power LED is illuminated on the VCI; if it is not illuminated, press on the power
button of the VCI. Within a few seconds, the GDS screen should indicate "VCI: USB On" in bright blue to the left of the VIN button on the screen.
2. Click the "Data Treatment" tab under the Vehicle S/W Management column.
3. The GDS should automatically read the vehicle's VIN and populated the vehicle information (or manually enter vehicle, year, and engine if it does not automatically read this information), then select the "DIS" system.
4. Select "All Systems" and click OK.
5. The "Head Unit" will be automatically selected as default.
Click OK to continue.
6. Select the "Get All S/W version".
7. The Head Unit (HU) software version displays in the pop up screen.
8. 2009 Genesis Sedan
The first group of 5 digit numbers is current
HU software version.
If the version is less than 21.000, go to the step 12 and use the RED disc.
2010-2011 Genesis Sedan
The second group of 5 digit numbers is
current HU software version.
If the version is less than 13.510, go to the
step 12 and use the VIOLET disc.
2011 Equus
The second group of 5 digit numbers is
current HU software version.
If the version is less than 11.510, go to the
step 12 and use the GREEN disc.
Press "OK" to close the pop up screen.
9. Select "Systems" to switch to "Tuner/Amplifier" system.
Select "Tuner/Amplifier" and click OK.
10. Select the "System Identification".
11. The "Tuner/Amplifier" (UTA)software version displays in the pop up screen.
If the software version is not 10204A use appropriate disc (refer to SOFTWARE INFORMATION TABLE) to update.
Press "OK" to close the pop up screen. Disconnect the GDS and VCI from the vehicle.
SOFTWARE UPDATE PROCEDURE:
12. Start the vehicles engine or place the ignition switch to the ON position by pushing the start/stop button two times without depressing the brake pedal. (Connect a battery charger with a 10A setting if the
ignition switch is left in the ON position.)
13. Press the CCP (Center Control Panel) knob DOWN to acknowledge the caution screen message.
14. Ensure that there are No discs in the changer mechanism by pressing and hold the eject button (B) for 3 seconds. This will eject ALL discs that may be in the mechanism. Verify that the message, "No Disc" is displayed on the screen.
15. Press the load button (C) and insert the
appropriate disc.
2009 Genesis Sedan: RED disc
2010-2011 Genesis Sedan: VIOLET disc
2011 Equus: GREEN disc
The screen shows "Disc Error", which indicates it is a non-playable format. This is normal.
16. Enter the software update menu by simultaneously pressing the DISC/AUX(B), BACK(C), NAVI/MENU(D) buttons while pressing the VOL KNOB(A).
17. Using the Center Control Panel (CCP), scroll the focus bar down to "Software Update" on the left side of the display screen, and jog the CCP to the right.
Select "Update from CD" by pushing the CCP down.
18. Select "Start selected update" by pushing the CCP down.
19. Select "Yes" to start the software update by
pushing the CCP down.
The system will re-boot and display splash screen momentarily.
20. The installation progress indicator will display and the installation will begin. The software update takes about 1.6 hrs.
After the successful download and installation of the operating software, the system will re-boot and display the splash screen for a few seconds.
21. Remove the disc.
Check for proper operation of the audio and navigation system.
Verify the HU and UTA software versions by repeating the steps 1 through 11. The software update is complete if the vehicle HU and UTA software versions match with the versions in software information table.
Repeat step 12 thorough 20 if the software versions are different.
Check for DTC(s) in the DIS system by using the GDS and erase if any.
