B1978 Electric Steering Column Lock Failure - W/Harness Inspection
Terminal and Connector Inspection
1. Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.
2. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.
3. Has a problem been found?
PDM Power Circuit and Ground Circuit Inspection
1. PDM Power Circuit Inspection
(1) IG "ON" & ENG "OFF"
(2) Measure voltage between Power to PDM circuit and chassis ground.
(3) Measure voltage between Power to ESCL circuit and chassis ground.
(It is available to measure during ESCL operation.)
Specification : Approx. 12 V
(4) Are the measured voltage within specifications?
2. PDM Ground Circuit Inspection
(1) IG "ON" & ENG "OFF"
(2) Measure voltage between PDM ground circuit and chassis ground.
Specification : Approx. 0 V
(3) Is the measured voltage within specifications?
3. Check Open or Short on ESCL Communication Line
(1) After IG "OFF", disconnect '-' terminal from battery.
(2) Disconnect connectors of IPM, PDM, and ESCL.
(3) Check open or short on ESCL Comm. line (ESCL<->IPM).
(4) Check open or short on ESCL Enable Output line (ESCL<->IPM).
Specification for Open check :Below 1 Ohms
