AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT LEVER -
ACCESSORY POWER REMAINS ON IN PARK

Description:
On some 2011 model year Sonata vehicles, the accessory power may remain on after the vehicle is shifted into Park and the ignition key or start/stop button is turned off.

This bulletin provides the service procedure to repair this condition.

Applicable Vehicles:
2011 Sonata (YF) produced from the beginning of production through
September 28, 2010.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:





1. Depress the parking brake and move the shift lever to the "N" position.

Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

Grasp the shift knob firmly with both hands and pull upward. The boot will come off with the knob.

NOTE

A force of 50 lb or more may be required
to remove the knob.





2. Using a plastic trim tool, remove the left and right side panels





3. Use a plastic trim tool to remove the top cover

4. Refer to the Sonata Shop Manual, Body Section, Interior, Console and Repair Procedures and remove the center console.

5. Refer to the Sonata Shop Manual, Automatic Transaxle System, Shift Lever and Repair Procedures and replace the shift lever assembly.

6. Reinstall the removed parts in the reverse order of removal

7. Move the shift lever through all gear positions and confirm the shift lever and shift indicator lights function correctly.

Confirm the engine starts in Park and Neutral.
