DESCRIPTION:

The fuel door may not open when the fuel door release button is pressed or it may not stay closed.

VEHICLES AFFECTED:
Model: 2011MY Sonata (YF) 2.4GDI and 2.0Turbo

Affected Vehicles: Production date range:
^ December 11, 2009 through December 1, 2010

PARTS INFORMATION:
^ No parts required, adjustments only

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Open the fuel door and bend the fuel door spring outward as shown to increase the spring force.

NOTE:
Leave fuel door open after adjusting the spring.

2. Open the trunk and remove the felt service cover for the left rear combination lamp assy to allow access to the fuel door latch actuator.

3. Push the fuel door latch actuator INWARD to move the actuator body towards the interior of the trunk and allow the fuel door to have more lateral movement in the latched position.

4. Latch the fuel door, then access the fuel door actuator and push the actuator OUTWARD away from the interior of the trunk. Push until the fuel door is "snug" with just a slight amount of movement.

5. After completing the actuator adjustments, push the fuel door lightly in the center. There should be approximately 1-2 mm of movement, if the actuator was adjusted properly. If there is no movement, the actuator pin may be jammed and steps 3 & 4 must be performed again.

6. Confirm repair procedure by allowing the vehicle to sit approximately 4 hours and then open the fuel door using the fuel door release button.
