SUBJECT: 8-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL
This TSB supersedes TSB 12-AT-004 to revise Genesis Coupe information.
Description:
The following vehicles are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The ATF level can be checked by the following procedure.

NOTE
Use only ATF meeting the SPH-IV-RR specification approved by Hyundai. Do not use SP-III, SPH-IV or other ATF which may result in degradation of shift quality.
WARRANTY INFORMATION: Normal warranty applies
ATF LEVEL INSPECTION:
1. Remove the splash shield under the transmission.
2. If the ATF has been completely drained, go to Step 3. To check the ATF level, go to Step 4.
3. If the ATF has been completely drained:
^ Move the shift lever to "N" (engine off)
^ Lift the vehicle on a hoist
^ Remove the fill plug.
^ Use a fluid pump or suction gun to add SPH-IV-RR ATF through the fill plug.
^ Engine off. Add approximately 4 quarts of SPH-IV-RR.
^ Start the engine. Add approximately 4-5 additional quarts of SPH-IV-RR
^ Reinstall the fill plug. Go to Step 4.
4. Attach a GDS and select vehicle, A/T menu, Current Data and "Oil Temperature Sensor".
5. Drive the vehicle until the ATF is at the low end of the range of 122-140°F (50-60°C).
6. Move the shift lever to "N" and leave the engine idling. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
7. Remove the overflow plug.
Remove the fill plug and add SPH-IV-RR ATF until the ATF flows out of the overflow plug in a thin steady oil stream.
Reinstall the overflow plug. Torque: 5-8 lb-ft (0.7-11 kgf.m)
Reinstall the fill plug. Torque: 25-32 lb-ft (3.5-4.5 kgf.m)
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
Severe usage is defined as:
^ Frequent driving on mountain roads
^ Repeated short distance driving
^ More than 50% driving in heavy city traffic during hot weather above 90°F (32°C)
^ Trailer towing or commercial operation such as a taxi.
