Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

Relieve fuel system pressure before disconnecting fuel lines or removing any fuel system component.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove inspection hole cover located below rear seat.
3. Disconnect electrical connectors and fuel lines from fuel gauge assembly.
4. Remove lock ring using socket removal tool No. X38879 or equivalent. Fig. 4.

5. Remove fuel gauge assembly and disconnect tubes and electrical connector.
6. Carefully remove fuel pump as shown in Fig. 5.

7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use a new O-ring.
b. Align parts for installation with alignment marks.
c. Torque lock ring to 22-26 ft. lbs.
